Formula

Formula used to convert °F to K:

F(x) = (x - 32) * 5/9 + 273.15

For example, if you want to convert 15 °F to K, just replace x by 15 [°F]:

15 °F = 15-32)*(5/9))+273.15 = 263.7055555555555 K

Steps

  1. Subtract 32 from the temperature expressed in Fahrenheit.
  2. Then, multiply the result by 5 (five) and then divide it by 9 (nine). Or instead of doing two steps, you can just multiply the result of the first step by 0.555555555 (5/9 = 0.555555555).
  3. Add 273.15 to the previous result.
  4. The result will be expressed in Kelvin.

About Fahrenheit (°F)

The Fahrenheit is a unit of measurement or scale used to measure temperature. The Fahrenheit uses the symbol °F. It is widely used in the United States, the Bahamas, Belize, and the Cayman Islands.

The Fahrenheit scale proposed by Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit in 1724. The lower defining point, 0 °F, was established as the freezing temperature of a solution of brine made from equal parts of ice, water and salt (ammonium chloride).another point of reference he took in consideration was the melting point of ice (32 °F). The scale is now usually defined by two fixed points: the temperature at which water freezes into ice (32 °F), and the boiling point of water (212 °F), as defined at sea level and standard atmospheric pressure.

About Kelvin (K)

The Kelvin is the base unit of temperature in the International System of Units (SI). The Kelvin scale is an absolute thermodynamic temperature scale using as its null point absolute zero (the temperature at which all thermal motion ceases). The symbol used to express kelvin is K.

Unlike the degree Fahrenheit and degree Celsius, the kelvin is not referred to or written as a degree because it’s not a relative scale, but an absolute one. A degree is a change in temperature that is measured against a scale. Therefore, because there is no negative values for Kelvin scale, then the degree symbol is not used.
